Hollywood Nobody by Lisa Samson

Hollywood NobodyHollywood Nobody by Lisa Samson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I actually liked this book when I gave it a chance. Although it starts off as a blog post which through me off. In the end it was a good read. Scotty is girl who lives in a RV with her mother, she  does not go to school she just goes from movie set to movie set.  Charley is her mother a real gypsy who works as a movie food stylist.

With all of that being said, nobody is really who you think they are not even Scotty and she doesn't  know it at first. She just knows that her mother is hiding something

A Brisket, A Casket by Delia Rosen

A Brisket, a Casket (A Deadly Deli Mystery, #1)A Brisket, a Casket by Delia Rosen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Honestly I found this book to be funny, aside from the murders and the mishaps that keep happening to her and that the prime suspect has a crush on the heroine.

This book really made me think about the choices we make in our lives.  Shelia was so sure that she had everything she wanted but she did not know what GOD wanted for her. When she started to walk in her faith so many doors opened up for her. I read every word of this book. I would caution you to read the first book if you want the whole background on Shelia.

The Mummy Case (Jim Knighthorse, #2)The Mummy Case by J.R. Rain

Jim is back and he is back and is he hired to find out what happens to a fresh out of college historian. Along the way he solves a very old crime and digs up more evidence in the murder of his mother from his childhood. He still hasn't made peace with his father or his football career.

Read it you will not be disappointed. However, there is some graphic scenes in his stories so don't say I did not warn you.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have become a die-hard JR Rain fan. Jim knighthorse is bigger than a horse, arrogant and a darn good detective. He has been hired to find out what really happened to a shark activist. Along the way he must continue tracking the man who killed his mother when he was ten years old. Although Jim often works with the police he does not always walk within the law.

I really did enjoy this book. I think the title sucks but I read it anyway and was pleasantly surprised at how well written the story is. I did not find it predictable and what girl does not love a cowboy, who loves his family and his land in that order. When Sammie Jo called him daddy for the first time I could not help but smile. I am considering reading the remaining stories in the Travers Brothers series.

The Heat of Heat by Bettye Griffin

The Heat of HeatThe Heat of Heat by Bettye Griffin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am giving this 4 stars because it was too much going on. It would have been easier if Yolanda and Carlos were their own story because it was just alot.  Chantal and Sinclair do not seem like the kind of women that Hatdh would have raised. Chantal was just too silly for me. She was getting mad at the man for reasons that were out of his control. She was just a tad bit too immature for me. Seriously.

Sinclair I liked although I wish she had more backbone.

I am going to say I liked the book but this was not my favorite by Ms. Griffin so I will wait and see what is next.

Faith (Brides of the West #1) (HeartQuest)Faith (Brides of the West #1) by Lori Copeland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book. Faith and sisters decide to become mail order brides to secure their futures. Faith arrives in Deliverance, TX and there is drama from the very start. The stage breaks an axle and she arrives to meet her rich husband and the rest of the town dirty and hot.

I am going to read the three other stories in the series because I really enjoyed this book. This is a  historical romance with Christian undertones so there is no steaminess and that is okay because it is not needed.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the chemistry between the characters.  My only beef with the book is the same I have had with her others. There are typographical errors in the book. for instance that there is a sentenced where it should read "she stared at him" but instead of stared the book has "started" drives me crazy. Otherwise good story

Modern Day DrifterModern Day Drifter by Jessica Tate
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jake was fresh out of prison and was one of the few men who had learned his lesson. He wanted to get as far away from the prison town as possible. He has a little money and bag with one change of clothes.  Jake eventually makes it to a another small Texas town and inquires about work. A man takes him out to the Smithson Ranch where he is given a job has a ranch hand. Smithson is a tough old man and he requires all his workers to join the rodeo and give him a cut. He can see potential in Jake from the beginning.

What I liked about the book?

Well mostly Jake, he is quiet keeps his own counsel and is not afraid of much of anything. He learns some valuable lessons on forgiveness.

What I did not like?

I feel like the author thought she had to wrap the book up in a neat little bow. She was on to a great thing.

What the author could have done better?

She could have delved deeper into the relationship with his father. Let it evolve a little more.

This is was a Kindle Free Novel.

Texas Hold Him by Lisa Cooke

Texas Hold Him (Leisure Historical Romance)Texas Hold Him by Lisa Cooke
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What I liked about the book?

It was set in New Orleans and much of the South. The story was a good one. A man is blackmailing Lottie Mason's father and she has to find a way to pay him $15,000 dollars to keep her daddy from hanging. Lottie does not tell her father about the blackmailing, he is weak and a little out of it since returning from the War.

Lottie gets on a gambling boat on its way to ST Louis for a high stakes game. She tries to get Dyer who is the best gambler on the boat to teach her poker. He refuses at first but knows that he can not resist.

Dyer has demons on his own and is chasing a ghost. The man who killed his family as punishment for Dyer fighting for the north.

What I did not like?

THis was a free read on Kindle and I doubt that I would have purchased it or even heard of the author had I not. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the story.

What the author could have done better?

Nothing.

Finger Lickin' Fifteen (Stephanie Plum, #15)Finger Lickin' Fifteen by Janet Evanovich
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What I liked about the book?

IT was funny, I mean really funny. The killer who giggles, the gun totin' grandma. And a host of other characters. Stephanie has some much happening to her should have been in a mental hospital.  And the conversation with the Landlord after her apartment was firebombed was too funny.

What I did not like?

IT wasn't a bad book, I just wish Lula had a different manner of speaking. I think reading the books before this one will help in knowing more about the characters.

What the author could have done better?

since is book 15, I don't think that there is much she should change.

Break Every Rule by Aliyah Burke, McKenna Jeffries, Taige Crenshaw

What I liked?

The story was interesting and the characters were kind of funny. I suspect that there are more connecting stories to this one. I love the closeness that Taggart and his family shared.

Let me say this book started off one way and I thought I knew what this was about but in the end it was something else totally.

What I did not like?

There was no character depth. I don't know Dominique. I know more about Taggart than her. Hell I found out more about McGee who did not show up til the end of the book.
There are also some random characters that appear and I still do not know why they were there. I am sure that there are more stories I am just not sure if I will be reading them.

What could have been better?

Well just see above. There are three contributing authors for this book and I have noticed that Aliyah Burke has very good reviews on her other works so I will be checking her out and then deciding whether or not to follow up on the other authors and the remaining books in this series

Beautiful Sins by Jennifer Hampton (Book 1)

What I liked about the book?

It was quite interesting, it took the paranormal in a new direction. I am quite glad that she make this story overtly sexual which helped to make it more enjoyable than a lot of other stories in the genre.
The story kept me interested even though I wish it were a little more in depth.

What I did not like?

The fact that Leigha appears to have some special meaning to Prince Alex but it is never revealed in the first book. Why is he so connected to her and can find her when she is in trouble.  I have alot of questions?

What could make the book better?

I am reserving my judgement of the book because I now know there is another book in the series so once I read that one I will know if this was worth it.

Reinventing Leona

This is a Christian fiction novel so there is not cussing or sexual content. And I found that I enjoyed it anyway. The book is not preachy by any means. It was a great story, there is sadness and there is triumph.

What I liked about this book?
That it was about survival and finding your place in the world. I loved Leona'a resolve and her ability to land on her feet. She stood up for herself when it counted most.  Her old evil mama was a hoot though.

What I did not like?

IT was kind of slow. I found myself wishing they would hurry up and get to the good part. Or whatever was next. However, I am inpatient.

How the book could be improved?

I wish the author would have extended the book past the point where it ended. I don't want to give away the ending.

Godspeed Leslie Esdaile Banks

She wrote under many names and had some many great novels. I am so saddened to learn that God took her home today. She is most popularly known as LA Banks.  I hope her passage was a easy one and I am more than sure that there was someone behind the veil awaiting her arrival.

You are home now Leslie. No more suffering.

Say Amen Again by Reshonda Tate Billingsley

Drama. From the first word on the first page.

What I liked about the book?

The author kept the story on point there was no wasted characters or action in this book. Seriously I could not put it down once I started because I needed to know what was going to happen next.

What I did not like about the book?
N/a

How could the author improve the book?

Not possible. I suspect that she put a lot of herself into this book to make sure that it was as good as the first and I must say that she actually outdid herself.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Got a lot to read.

I have been stocking up on books so I have about 30 to read and review so stayed tuned.

Hidden Steel by Doranna Durgin

She woke up in a hospital bed, but not in a hospital at all. Handcuffed to a bed. She had no idea how or why she was there. But it was time to find out....

What I liked about this book?

The action, it was nonstop from the very beginning.

What I did not like about the book?
Honestly, there was nothing not to like it was well written and action packed. There could have been a tad bit more romance.

How could the book be improved?
Like I said just a tad bit more romance between two of the main characters.

This was a free book on Amazon, I have no connection to the author.

I have a un-natural love for my kindle I take it with me everywhere I go. I frequently check for free books on Amazon but I also frequent Smashwords.com after being told about it on facebook. I have discovered some really good writers and would recommend that you check them out as well.

Not all of the books are free on Smashwords but those that are not are quite reasonable.

Hoping to receive a lot of Amazon gift cards for my birthday!

Hot to Touch by Kimberly Kaye Terry

Hot to Touch (Kimani Romance)Hot to Touch by Kimberly Kaye Terry

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I read this book months ago, in March I believe. I do not know why I failed to review it. It is a pretty good story. Emma is a reporter who is tasked to get as much information about jumpers. Men who parachute into forest fires and try to distinguish the flames. Emma trains with the jumpers and it is immediately obvious that one man does not want her around, Shane.

Shane is one of the best fire jumpers and he does not trust women. His best friend lost his life because of a woman and from then on Shane only saw them as sex partners nothing more.

Needless to say things heat up and cool down for Shane and Emma, but is all the things that happen in between that make this a really good story.

Pleasure for Two by Pamela Yaye

Pleasure for Two (Kimani Romance)Pleasure for Two by Pamela Yaye

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So full of drama! I really like this book although I thought Marcel needed a little more swagger. Marcel had legal issues and really did not express himself in a genuine manner at all times. Dominique was moonlighting a masseuse which causes some issues since some men thought that massages equate to sex.

With family drama and some baggage from a trifling ex-husband Dominique is not to quick to give her heart to Marcel. And in my humble opinion makes him earn his relationship with her. Let me say that there are several people that you will consider slapping if you were in this position.

Not going to say much more or I will give away the story.

This story is about John Stallion and Marah. Marah's father decides to sell his ranch to the Stallion brothers but Marah is not having it. She bursts in on the staff meeting to let the brothers know that her father is not going to sell.

Marah takes it the hardest and is the most insolent person you would ever meet.

Fast forward ...

John decides that he likes Marah's passion but of course through a series of mis communication and childishness they are apart. Until the rest of their families decide that the best way to have the families merge happily is to get John and Marah to marry.

This was a good read for me and seriously it was not predictable at all for me. Leticia has come by everything the hard way, she worked for it. She gets her dream job and works her butt off to keep it.

This book is about Leticia taking control of her life and living it the way she wants. About her finding her voice.

She finds love in a co-worker who has had his share of bad experiences and is a little weird as well.

Can't Get Enough of You by Bette Ford

Can't Get Enough of YouCan't Get Enough of You by Bette Ford
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I loved and hated this book. Jenna grew up in the foster care system and had a great relationship until Scott decided to join the NBA. Jenna felt betrayed because Scott did not follow their teenage plans breaks up with him and moves away.

They both return to Detroit around the same time.  Jenna seemed so naive that it was painful to watch.  I feel that her emotional maturity was minimal. At times I had to put this book down because she was working on my nerves.

She refused to stand up for herself and she seemed to rely alot on Scott although she claimed he was the enemy.

Judge for yourself but I have read better books from this author.

A Little Known by Janice Daugharty

The Little KnownThe Little Known by Janice Daugharty
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was something I did not think that I would like but it was set in the late 50's and early 60's so the language is such.  The Little Known is about a young black boy everybody calls Knot, nobody knows his real name or at least it is never mentioned not even by the woman who pretended to find him in the garbage.

He wants nothing more than to be loved and to help those around him. He is a sum much greater than the parts that make him.  Nothing around him is what it is supposed to be.

This is one of those books that you have to read to the end. The story is complex and nothing is gonna come easy..

This was an amazing book, it follows five people in Heaven who are supposed to watch over certain people while God takes a nap. well two hours in heaven is two years on earth. The Committee consists of three men and two women from all walks of life who found God. None of the committee members have gotten their wings just yet but they all find that they have special powers.  They also find that Michael the archangel among   others are watching them closely.  I really loved this book. I loved revisiting this fiery Italian family. It never occurred to me that Hayden and Amalia would be a good match. This book definitely makes me want to travel to Italy and if I weren't already married to get my own Italian.

There was some errors in judgement on Amalia's part and she seem to want to force the relationship thing. But Hayden was giving mixed signals and all the making out in front of her family was kind of weird to me.

There were some typographical errors in the box.

Something Old, Something New: A Blessings NovelSomething Old, Something New: A Blessings Novel by Beverly Jenkins

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Third book in the series and let me just say I was way to emotionally invested in this book. This book mainly focuses on Devon the eight year old preacher. Bernadine warned the foster parents that it would take time for the kids to show who they were and oh boy did Devon show out.
There were parts when I wanted to get my belt for his butt. LOL. I can't tell you much about Zoe because it would be a spoiler.

There are some very funny parts in this book and I mean laugh out loud funny parts. There is some sadness as well. Beverly writes a complete story that makes you feel as if you are in that town seeing the events unfold.

This is the second book in the series and as always there is alot going on. There is a murder (you have to read it to believe it); a kidnapping and a reunion. Beverly has got to be the best writer I have ever read in terms of fiction.
This book was so good. I love that the kids have a voice and are not just secondary characters. Heck everybody has something to say in the town of Henry Adams whether you want to hear it or not.
Bernadine still has money and heart and she is still spreading around this town she owns. I love the patience and love she shows Crystal but when Crystal's biological father shows up he finds a hard lesson.

No more! I don't want to spoil it for you.

Okay this book started out really well for me but it left me with some questions in the end. Did Payton ever meet Derrick? What happened in the end?

There were a lot of wholes in the story for me. I doubt that the author did this intentionally I am going to assume it was editing because Farrah is a pretty good writer based on my previous reads from her.

I finished the book which means it kept my interest. I may read this again to make sure that I did not miss anything.

I loved this book. I could not see how the author was going to get these two together. Kasady was clearly a ice queen she did not let anyone close to her and honestly she was starting to get on my nerves. The doctor was obviously just trying to be nice to her but she seemed to be intent on just being a bit bitchy I must say.

Let's just say that she was very lucky to have him around later on.

I definitely recommend this book

Bring on the BlessingsBring on the Blessings by Beverly Jenkins

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book so much. Being a foster mom it really hit home with me. This is not a traditional romance novel it is more inspirational than anything else. I really loved that this book brings me back to Henry Adams and the descendants of my favorite characters from other books.

The background stories for each of the foster children is so moving.

There is the teenage girl to old for her own good. Selling her body to make it on the streets.

The car thief, left behind and the best car thief in Detroit.

The smart but chubby boy who burned down his foster mother's house just so he could get moved to a new home where they would buy his asthma medicine.

The preacher who was just a eight year old boy who only wears suits and whose soul is too old for his little body.

And there is the little girl whose story will make you sick. she sat next to her mother's dead body...

trust me there is much more but you will have to read it to get more..

Fear Itself: A Fearless Jones NovelFear Itself: A Fearless Jones Novel by Walter Mosley

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This story is told from the point of view of Paris Minton not Fearless Jones which makes me wonder who the actual hero of the story is. It does not seem to be Fearless although is the muscle and is quite deadly with a cause for sure.. Unlike Mouse in the Easy Rawlins type stories.

this time Fearless comes to Paris with a case that involves a woman looking for a man that Fearless sometimes works for. But nothing is what it seems and there are dead bodies

Fear of the Dark (fearless jones novel 3) by Walter Mosley

Fear of the Dark (Fearless Jones Novel, No.3)Fear of the Dark by Walter Mosley

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really liked this book there was alot of death, no sex and plenty of booze. Not much different from the Easy Rawlins series. I think I like Easy better.. Fearless Jones is supposed to be the main character but this book was told from the perspective of his friend Paris Minton.

The story is simply, Paris' cousin Useless comes to his house but Paris won't let him in because the last time he did the police showed up and a whole lot of trouble. And then Ulysses (called Useless by everybody but his mama) goes missing and his mother shows up on Paris' door wanting help finding the manchild.

But his cousin Useless is not his only problem there is his white girl and I can not remember her name because they mainly referred to her as the white girl. Remember this story is set in the 1950's Los Angeles and there was nothing politically correct about that time.

I loved this book so much. I only wish it was longer and that he had spoken about how he and Beyonce met but the story behind his lyrics really told me a lot. I am a avid fan of his music and was glad he touched on the fact that people know him for the songs on the radio but the songs that are on the album and not radio singles are the songs that the true fans know. The reason behind his this is people don't want to hear a song like Beach Chair which he gives the lyrics to in the book. That is my absolute favorite Jay Z song. The song reflects on all the things you have done in your life and how you hope that your sins are not reflected on your children.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

As always Ms. Jenkins did not disappoint me with this story. Faith and Nick have a beautiful love story that defied the odds.  Seriously I loved this book and because I am a lover of history the information used was quite accurate.
The love scenes were not as hot as say  "Topaz" but not every story can be. My criteria for a 5 star review is that once I finish reading it, it stays on my mind. I started this review last night but I keep thinking about the book. The scenes from this book are playing like a movie in my mind.

Round the Clock by Dara Girard

Round the Clock (Kimani Romance)Round the Clock by Dara Girard
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I loved this book just as i loved all the rest of the books in the series. I could have used a little more drama but it was still a good read.
Anne Marie, was a pushover but had a lot of strength that she did not know she had. She wanted one thing in the world and it was Desmond and boy did she get him along with a lot of drama.

Seducing the Matchmaker

Seducing The Matchmaker (Kimani Romance)Seducing The Matchmaker by Elaine Overton
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I really did like this book.
Noelle Brown is a match maker and she has just met the worse client possible. He is a jackass, he's rude and he does not take no for an answer.
Elaine did a good job with this book and although it does not meet my five star requirements it was a pretty good read.  I recognize that most of the Kimani Press books are a certain length but i wish there was a little more to the story. Like preparation for the drama that just happens all of a sudden and then it's over..  She should really delve into contemporary fiction with a different publisher because she has the chops just needs more pages

Save The Best for Last by Bettye Griffin

Save The Best For LastSave The Best For Last by Bettye Griffin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a pretty good read I must say. I really enjoyed the story and let me tell you this girl had a lot going on. It is very hard to review the book without giving the story away.  Essentially, Gen is in the country illegally and needs to marry someone to stay. Barry whom she had been dating turned out to be somebody's husband already and she needed to think of something else, fast....

gonna leave it there you will have to read the book in order to figure out the rest..

Christmas Diamonds by Devon V. Archer

I wanted to like this book but the action took place just too quickly. There was no chase involved and I would have really liked for more conflict in the beginning of the story.
This is the not the first book that I have read and it will not be the last.  I just don't like this one.

Love Me Tonight by Gwynne Forster

I am big fan of Gwynne Forster but this was not my favorite book. There was no real drama in the book. I think if Heather had gotten kidnapped in Columbia or even taken one of the Ambassador posts it would have been much better, There was nothing more than her misgivings about marriage. She could have searched for her mother or even had her find out more about her mother since she grew up in the same town where Judson came from.

As usual I love reading about the Harringtons but there was something that I missed. I thought that it would have been much easier if they would have just had the dna test done on Judson from the moment they met him since he did in fact look exactly like Drake.  This was missing a lot of the detail that I have come to expect from Ms. Forster.
